My Dad
Not strictly taken today...
While continuing the monster task of clearing my Mum's loft I came across a box of 100 or so slides of mine. I used to use a Balda-Werk 35mm fully manual camera - even had to guess the distance to the subject and set the lens accordingly as well as 'guessing' (inspired estimation!) the correct exposure (usually f8 - 100th...).
Spent today scanning the pics, turns out 30 odd were not mine (plastic mounted Kodachrome - who'd have thought it - must be 1990's.
This is definitely one of mine, from around 1975ish, taken on our Snapdragon 24 sailing cruiser, showing my dad at the tiller wearing fetchingly old fashioned (even then) water-proofs in typical sailing weather. One year we woke up in Margate Harbour during an Easter Holiday sailing trip to Calais and swept six inches of snow off the decks!
Still it's nice to see a picture of him looking well, he died on St Georges Day five years ago after a long and horrible illness.
And hey - I got a job after 18 months trying. Hopefully I should start on 29th. Great news, bit scary but very excitin'.
