World Cup Fever

Mother had just taken the newspaper out of Gran's letterbox. You can see it had been folded several times. No doubt reading the latest sports news on how the English team were preparing for the summer's World Cup. Everybody knew the Germans would win.

Back in those days, it was still possible for us children to play football on the streets and not even the residents got upset. The road slopes uphill to the right and in winter the road was an ideal toboggan run as the council plough and salter didn't come for days after it snowed.
