sheep in the snow

Snow fell overnight and it was the best kind - enough to look pretty but not enough to make travelling difficult. The forecast said that it would be sunny later on so I knew I should take a photo while the snow lasted. I stopped on my way in to work at Gribton where these sheep were looking distinctly forlorn.

At work I hung a new exhibition of photos which we have on a short loan from the Fairtrade Foundation. They are by photojournalist Ian Berry of Magnum and show the grim reality which gold miners face in Uganda to produce what is a luxury commodity. The exhibition, which is travelling around the UK, hopes to let people know that Fairtrade gold is available, and that buying this will guarantee producers a fair price, better working conditions and other benefits for the mining communities. Read more about it HERE.

Extras show part of the exhibition at our cafe, The Usual Place in Dumfries. It's there all week.
