Buxton
Another Superlative Walk today, around Buxton. Snowy conditions made for some enjoyable walking up and down hills, such as the climb up to Corbar Cross, originally erected in 1950 for the Roman Catholic Church and cut down in 2010 as a protest about child abuse at a Catholic school in Yorkshire. This one was a replacement in 2011.
In the woods above Poole's Cavern, Martin and Andy posed by a sculpture of a lime-kiln worker. Andy's strange pose (on the right) was a form of exercise which is apparently very beneficial for skiers. Shortly thereafter we climbed Grin Hill to Solomon's Temple, built in the 1890s on top of a bronze age barrow.
After slipping and sliding down the hill to Buxton, we passed through Pavilion Gardens Park. At the fine Opera House, we saw a poster advertising what, in our view, would be the most excruciating evening's entertainment.
