Geese

It was so cold today that the Canada geese that hang out by the river had more or less all gathered together in one group. Usually they seem to break up into smaller groups, during the day at least. This blip only shows some of them - I'd have needed a seriously wide angle to get them all in. I think they roost about a mile away, on a shallow lake where they must be fairly safe from predators. I often see or hear them flying back and forth morning and evening. I'd begun to think that their numbers were diminishing a bit in the last year or two,  but seeing them together today makes me suspect that they're doing fine.
