Where Ancient and Modern Meet
Mt. Hood or Wy'east, to Native Tribes, overlooks the Columbia River and the Gorge. One can see on the left side, the "benches" carved into sections of the gorge by the Ice Age, Missoula Floods.
One can also see the Bonneville Power Administration's (BPA) electricity towers and wires carrying power generated by The Dalles Dam in the center of the photo. At the base of the gorge on the Oregon side (left in photo), Interstate 84 heads east following the Columbia River and the Oregon Trail, which was used by pioneers from the eastern United States entering the Pacific Northwest.
