Restaurant

Cambodia is proving a bit of a surprise to me.  It appears to be more highly developed than I had expected.

Today we drove from Phnom Penh with its many  modern buildings among the old original buildings to Siem Reap.  This town, which was a small village a decade or so ago, is now a modern bustling city with smart new hotels and restaurants, a Hard Rock Cafe and all the facilities that you would expect of a large tourist destination. The attraction, of course, is the temples at Angkor Wat.  I wait to see them and hope that they are sufficiently impressive to compensate for the very western tourist atmosphere around the town.

The restaurant in my blip, attractively built on stilts at the edge of a lake, is on the Phnom Penh to Siem Riep road and caters for the many tourists who take that route.  Another modern development inspired by the huge growth in tourists.

We also stopped at a place which sold deep fried spiders and other insect delicacies.  They weren't totally objectionable, but I won't be rushing back for more.

Up at silly o'clock tomorrow morning hopefully to beat the crowds and find a good spot to photograph the sunrise.
