Name that plant

Your clues:
It only grows in the Andes, at around 4,000 metres.
It apparently has medicinal properties applicable to just about every ailment you care to think of.
The local common name (in Kichwa, I think) is something like "chikawara" but that might send you on the wrong track, so don't count on it.
