Baobab in the bush
This blip is to be switched with Friday ( that one is really thurs:-)!)
We went for a bush walk this morning - one sees different things all together walking around. The first person in our line is an armed guard with big rifle. Not needed. We learned lots about tracks, different kinds of termites, the lion ant (and the "small 5"), trees, etc etc. This is the huge baobab, which is probably over 1000 years old ! ( no rings so it's hard to judge).... They store water, are often hollow to provide housing for creatures, and the leaves, fruit and bark all have uses- it makes very tough rope ...
In the afternoon we went on a lovely canoe ride on a channel from the Zambezi - lazy way to go with the currant and dodge hippos and crocs, with views of many other creatures and birds along the banks...
Another fine day in Africa!!!
