Lai see tree

This peach blossom is at Club Siena. It’s quite an impressive size. And again amazingly, the flowers will bloom in time for the first day of Chinese New Year (CNY)! Which this year is 16th February.

The red packets are called lai see and contain, usually, brand new notes of money. They are handed out to young ones, single people, or those that serve you on a regular basis. And only given by older married people to younger people, never the other way round. And also given in two, as in two packets. For double happiness and double luck.

We learned all these traditions early on and have been practicing them. I usually by packets with a Christian blessing on them, instead of the usual wishes for fortune and luck. At the end of the day, people just want the money.
