Hidden world

Looking under flaking bark on fallen/dying trees (looking for beetles!) reveals a fascinating hidden world. This could be some sort of coral formation on a tropical reef... couldn't it? This tiny fungal ecosystem is home to springtails, tiny beetles and other small invertebrates that I'm only just starting to discover.
