EDIT: Yes, I do see the marks of a dirty sensor. Cleaned the lens and took shots; that line in the top left was still there; cleaned another lens to try; line still there; definitely on the sensor then. Finally opened up the camera for a physical clean. On inspection there was the culprit - a tiny cat hair lodged in a spot in front of the sensor. Could I remove it without touching the sensor? Yes.
