to be Surprised

One had time to spend in Douglas whilst the car was serviced this morning.

Now I have walked along Douglas Promenade many times but I have never seen this plaque before.  It was situate on the wall by some shops.

It seemed to me to be a most unlikely place for an airfield!

Being bemused, I went and did a little research and this is the answer:-
