Wanaka Challenge 2018

What a busy day it's been, with the Wanaka Challenge in full swing.  I knew I was in trouble when I set out to park my car beside the lake.  The road was closed, so I along with others wound my way through the back streets, where I finally got a car park.  There were thousands of people watching in the steady rain.  Extra 1 is of the swimmers coming out of the lake.

They were soon on their bikes heading out to Glendhu Bay.  Extra 2.  I am sure the riders enjoyed the refreshing rain.  I took my car home, encountering a traffic jam.  Extra 3.  The cyclists had right of way.  I finally got home, then walked back to the lake.  Saw a runner come in (he was 3rd in the half ironman.)  Main blip.   I Walked on to the marina where I got a runner (extra 4) nearing the finish.  The rain stopped about 11.30, and now it is a glorious sunny day.  I am not sure that the runners would like that.

There were 1,600 competitors, so was a big day for all concerned.  The full Ironman is 3 k swim, 180k bike ride and a marathon to finish with.
