Stairway

I have had this in mind for a blip for a couple of weeks now. It was a desperate day for blipping weatherise - lot of rain. So I headed off to Coles underground carpark and did some exposures.
This image for me raises the question of beauty in art. And can ugly be beautiful? My personal aesthetic finds this to be a beautiful image. Perhaps not in the conventional sense, and is probably a result of working in Australian prisons for 13 years. The prisons I worked in (Pentridge then Beechworth) were based on the old English "Panopticon" style which was originally created by Jeremy Bentham (late 18th century). Built of huge stone blocks that were mined locally, the architecture of these prisons had about them a "dark beauty", and could be described as gothic, brutal, noir, surreal. Those prisons were very dark places in more ways than one.
Anyway, I really like this image, despite the lens distortion and the angles being skewiff.
