Year of the Dog

There was a dragon procession through Manchester today, to mark the Chinese New Year. The large dragon was preceded by dignitaries, watched by curious spectators of all ages and followed by members of the Chinese community.

Manchester usually does well to put on well-organised public events.  Sadly, this wasn't one. The lack of barriers along the route and insufficient well-briefed stewards meant that the crowds spilled on to the roads and there were numerous bad-tempered arguments when people stood in front of other people.

There was, however, a static golden dragon in St Anne's Square.
