Traces Of Old York
Sneaking this in past my own "sort of rules" for the occasional series. Think it's justified mind, as loads of folk walk blindly past here on the way to the back entrance of the rail station.
York has a proud history of railways and particularly, railway manufacturing. This is part of the derelict carriage and engine building yard in Holgate, where, when I was growing up, thousands (literally) of workers would stream out of the works on their bikes when the shift siren sounded. Other road users, back off, or be flattened.
Now, as you can see, works and workers hung out to dry. However, time is running out for getting shots like this as over the next decade, massive "regeneration" of this area is about to happen. I need to get my skates on and do some more "record" stuff.
Doubt that the previous levels of skilled and semi-skilled employment will ever regenerate though.
