Pay It Forward

Arthur's Christmas present from Grandma, ¥2,000, went into the donation envelope today. Wanting to give more, Arthur phoned his Japanese granddad and asked if he could give ¥500 of his otoshidama (New Year allowance) to U.N.I.C.E.F. So that went into the envelope too. Impressed by Arthur's generosity, Valerie gave Arthur ¥100 and told him he could use it either to buy sweets or to donate it to U.N.I.C.E.F. That ¥100 also went into the envelope. Impressed by Valerie's kindness, Kazuko gave her a packet of crisps. Is conspicuous charity in the third-person an objectionable form of boasting? If so, I apologise, but I am extremely proud of my marvelous family.
