Building Sn3 and N Worlds

Yuletide Marble Works underway

Started building my Yuletide Marble Works for the N scale layout.  This is an "old school" kit from N Scale Architect - long out of production.  Their new kits feature total laser-cut parts, and go together really well.  This one is a challenge.  You get some instructions, a sheet of pictures, a bundle of scale lumber, and several sheets of N scale siding.  You also get plastic sheets with the individual wall parts printed on them.

The process is you carefully, with a new #11 Exacto blade cut out the elevations.  Then cut out the window openings.  You lay the plastic on a sheet of siding, trace the edges and the window openings, and start cutting with your #11 blade.  After a little sanding, you test fit the plastic windows - like the one on the cut-out elevation.  Yesterday I finished the main door into the fabrication building - it is alongside the cut out piece of siding at the top.  The little cross bracing goes on top of the wood rectangle.  Once I get all the sides cut - 8 in total - I will spray them with a solvent based primer to seal everything, and then the final water based color stain - yellow for this structure.  The windows are supposed to be a dirty white.

This is an actual marble plant located in Marble Colorado - not next to the Argo Mill as I did on my world.  Of course the real plant is way larger but this will get the idea across.

In the extra I included the spot where it will go once finished - where the floor plan is now, and a photo of the photo of the completed project.

The "back" of the building is served by the narrow gauge railroad (Nn3) which will bring pieces of marble to the plant for work.  It will be a non-running piece but with my collection of Nn3 cars and a RGS caboose.

These sort of kits are a little fussy, but being wood they are fairly forgiving.  I have had this kit on the shelf for 30 years!  About time to build it.
