Ohio River at flood stage
Tuesday
After snowfall on Saturday, today the temperature topped out at a sunny 77F (25C), about 5 degrees above the previous record for the date! Crazy! I decided to drive downtown to walk along the river and get some pictures of the Ohio River at flood stage. I believe the river is due to crest overnight at 56.1 feet, which just puts it into the moderate flood zone. The river enters flood zone at 52 feet, and moderate flood zone at 56 feet. It has only exceeded 56 feet twice in the last 20 years. It isn’t expected to recede for several days, as we are expecting more significant rainfall from Thursday through Saturday. I started my walk at the International Friendship Park, and walked as far as the football stadium. The sun and warm temperatures had brought loads of people out, walking, jogging, biking, dog-walking, everyone snapping pictures of the river on their mobile phones.
