Welcome to Physics
Welcome to the world of my "retirement hobby job". Three days a week I work in the school science prep room, preparing equipment like this for the Physics teachers.
Here we have an electron diffraction tube, and a Maltese Cross tube (where the electron beam casts a shadow of the inbuilt Maltese Cross on to the phosphor). The Helmholtz coil lying on the desk in front of them, when connected to a low voltage power supply, generates a magnetic field which can be used to bend and twist the electron beam.
These have been in regular use this week as all the Physics teachers seem to be doing the same demonstrations.
It keeps me quiet.
