Lost Words

An EB - it’s been a busy day.

The bear is Klimt. He needs no explanation. Viennese and a bit of a secessionist.

I bought the book last week, a bit of a welcome home gift for J. I read a review last year - Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane were inspired to create it on learning of words about the natural world being removed from the Oxford Junior Dictionary. So words like broadband are in. And words like conker, acorn, bluebell, fern, wren, kingfisher and bramble are out. It is a beautifully illustrated book of spells. I was reminded of it last week. A school bus driver in Scotland is so taken with the book that she has raised enough money to donate a copy to every primary school in Scotland. Go girl !
