Dragin.
We had bought tickets for the Chinese lantern show at Edinburgh Zoo, we might not have bothered had we realised just how bleedin’ cold it would be. It was a disappointment that, in the dark, with no visible signposts and no visible attendants, we couldn’t find the acrobatics display – twice. In fact, there were so many visitors that we asked who also couldn’t find it, we assumed that either the performances had been cancelled or we had misread the information sheet before we left home.
While the mind-numbing cold made it difficult to work out how to photograph the lanterns, I eventually went fully manual and used trial-and-error to get the exposures right, the finger-numbing cold made it difficult to apply that strategy to the camera controls, a problem exacerbated by having a small but otherwise ideal camera.
I was informed that the animals portrayed in the exhibition were all endangered – none more so than this dragin. I put it down to his camouflage.
