Surf hounds

I promised the Three Amigos I would take them to surfest.  Surfest is an annual surfing competition at Merewether beach and has attracted world class surfers this year.  The finals will be held over the weekend.  The heats have been going on alll week.

The comp was over for today but there were a few out practising.  This chap who gave the Amigos the ride of their lives was practising for the air competition.  He certainly was getting plenty of air here.

Fortunately the Amigos were returned dry and perfectly safe as you can see in the extra where they are posing nicely on the rocks at the Southern end of Merewether beach.

Surfing is very popular in Newie.  Kids are put on boards just as soon as they are out of their prams.  It gets them up at dawn where other kids would still be asleep or playing on their ipads.  They are attuned to nature reading the wind and waves and develop a healthy respect for sharks.
