Jerusalem
Today was an eye opening experience in many way.
Firstly, despite the many religious and therefore political communities living here the vibe is relaxed and friendly. We came through the Damascus gate and walked through the Christian, Armenian, Jewish and Muslim Quarters to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
It was at this point my wind was totally blown. Having gone to Sunday School in Cheshire in the 1960's my lasting impression of the New Testament was of a collection of fables rather along the lines of a fantasy novel. I had doubted that the Jesus character had ever lived.
He did.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre covers the area where Jesus was crucified also the cave where he was buried. My friends managed to visit this and professed to be moved. I didn't make it today, but maybe tomorrow.
Today there was a procession along the 12 stations of the cross which we joined, along with monks, nuns and many pilgrims.
More later.
