Mixed signals
Pune traffic is not the most organized. It's common to see drivers going the wrong way on one-way streets, and it's typical to experience what feels like a near miss with mopeds, rickshaws, and cars on every outing, whether walking or being driven (in fact, Paul nearly lost a leg to a moped going the wrong way this afternoon). Maybe because I'm too busy gripping the seat, I don't see very many traffic signals or signs. The park is a different story, however. These two photos stuck together show some of the many signs directing pedestrians through the park. One, apparently, urges trumpet playing.
We also get some mixed signals in yoga, but I feel I contain multitudes enough to handle them. Like, grip the buttocks for stability in Sirsasana--esp. important for beginners--but then don't be so narrow, esp. at the sacrum and tailbone. I guess our discriminating awareness tells us when to apply which to what.
