Old Masters, Brussels
We visited two major museums in Brussels today: primarily the Old Masters, and more briefly the Magritte Museum. This is a general view of the old master galley, which is on the second floor (first floor for Europeans) around a large rectangular courtyard. (I'm glad for the red coats providing a bit of color--they were not paid :) The old master collection is well short of the major European museums in terms of quality, but interesting nonetheless. Our favorites were works by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, especially "The Census at Bethlehem. The Magritte Museum has probably the largest collection of his works, and those on display were beautifully lit--though I'm not a fan of galleries as dark as these.
