Student Antics

100th.

Believe you can, and you're halfway there...

It has arrived. The first 'milestone' of achievements for me, in the world of Blip.

After Allan blipped me a couple of times (by chance) well over a year ago, I became interested and started following his journal on here. I was soon inspired enough to take the plunge and have a go with a relatively decent compact, Olympus D-720.

I loved it, especially the macro settings. Eventually I signed on the dotted line and started following those that interested me most.

The learning curve was exponential. To see how other people look at something, compose it, expose it, layer it, stitch it and CAPTURE IT, was mind blowing. Blipfoto set me the challenge of a daily photo, which I adhered to for a while before probably becoming a little bored with my compact.

Again, cue Allan. He lent me a Nikon F50 w/300mm and I was hooked. A handshake and exchange of an old D40 later, and here I am.

I'm constantly learning new things, techniques and tricks, whilst trying to discover my niche. Everyday there arises a new possibility and angle on something.

The thrill is invigorating.

I'm a 2nd year Marine Biology student and would love to somehow incorporate photography into my studies and later career. Photographers such as Doug Allen are a massive inspiration to me, hence why I'm going to see him present in Edinburgh next month.

I'm blabbing now, so I'll go. Thank you to everyone for giving me such wonderful images to enjoy and aspire to. You each give me a daily goal to aim for and continue to open my eyes to how much I don't know, and how much I will hopefully learn one day.

So, my ND1000 Filter arrived today, it's not an expensive one, obviously didn't want to splash the cash and the realise I hate taking photo's with it. Is this roughly how it should be working? Or is it the user that needs tweaking?

I would like to try and avoid the blown out sky behind Tantallon castle, shorter exposure? Please all feed me your insane knowledge on such new adventures.
