One night (and day) in Bangkok
Back-blipped on 25th February - please see last couple of days which I've recently posted too
Today we bought some tickets for the "hop on/hop off" tourist boat trip which goes up and down the river Chao Praya. It's a really great way of seeing the city of Bangkok, and quite relaxing. We got on at the first stop and just sat on it all the way to the far end, then on our return trip we got off several times.
The flower market was huge and fascinating. Evidently the best time to visit is between 2 nd 4 am, but we were too late for that.
In the evening we met up with a friend and his lovely partner. The friend is actually more our son's friend - they used to share a house when they were at uni. He has worked at one of the embassies in Bangkok for some years, and we last met up with them on the mainland in Thailand a couple of years ago. They arranged to meet us at one of the bars on top of a skyscraper in the city centre, and the views were fantastic. Later on they took us to another rooftop bar/restaurant, which was really tucked away and we would never have found on our own. At the end of the evening, we made our way back to our hotel on the Sky Train, as we had bought day passes which were very useful - saves keep finding loads of change.
Main picture - the lady who cooked our lunch for us today. Fantastic meal for about £3 for two meals, including a large beer and a bottle of water.
Extras : Flower Market; Our friends in the Red Sky Bar; Panorama from Sky Bar; Chao Praya River from the boat
