On the Forgotten highway
We travelled from New Plymouth through the lonely, forgotten highway to Lake Taupo today. The highway stretches for 148 kilometres and goes through some outstanding native bush (see extra). Along this highway we passed through the Republic of Whangamomona, an area that was so insenced when boundaries were changed and they were going to have to play rugby for a different region that they created their own republic. The headquarters for this republic is the iconic Whangamomona hotel.
