Fire in the Bosque

A gorgeous day for a walk by the Rio Grande. The cottonwoods are turning yellow and gold, the sky is bright blue and the sun is warm. Then, it was shocking to see how close the Romero Fire came to our home. We could see the destruction and the place where the fire jumped over the river. Some of the burnt trees were already sending new growth up from their roots. Not these. Here, the ground is scorched and nothing is growing.
