Goldsborough Miners’ Tunnel
Backblip ...
Our last day over on the West Coast, here exploring an access tunnel dug by the gold miners.
We’ve had a super visit over here. Great organisation by Nature Photography Society + Carolyn.
We were so lucky with the weather. It was perfect for our boat trip yesterday, and we hardly got any rain until we reached Arthur’s Pass today.
Hokitika was founded on goldmining in 1864. And some hit it rich! The largest gold nugget ever found in New Zealand was unearthed in Ross (south of Hokitika) in 1909. It was as big as a man’s fist and weighed 2.8kgs.
