Building Sn3 and N Worlds

Ready to stain - sort of

Yesterday I sprayed all the building sides and roof with my normal base coat of sealer paint.  I have found that the super cheap solvent based Walmart spray paint, at $.99 per can, is perfect.  Because it is so cheap it is very thin and drys fast.  And does not obscure the fine wood detail on the parts.  I like using water-based paint and applying it over the solvent based sealer coat, and therefore there is no warpage at all.  Not my idea - got it from the nice folks at Bar Mills kits in Maine.

Now - I thought I had yellow stain in my work area for the walls but found that it is all wood color.  After a few moments looking at the yellow paint I had (yellow was recommended by the kit maker) I decided that yellow was the wrong color for me.  In fact, looking on-line it appeared that the buildings were acrtually gray with white windows.  So tomorrow I will airbrush some MOW Grey on all the sides.  Then I can start making the building which should go very fast.

I have stained all the wood supports for the dock and overhead crane so they are ready to go now.  They sit on the left rear part of the work surface. You can see the windows on the wood sticks to the right - I sprayed them with the white sealer from Walmart and I like the sort of dirty gray color so they are good to go.

One last thing.  In the right rear corner of my work surface sits one of the best things I ever bought.  A Shortline Chopper.  Cutting all of these little strips of wood the same length would have been maddening.  With the chopper it goes super fast.  Set the length and chop away.  And I still have all of my finger tips.  Go figure.
