Upper Egypt

Final approach to Aswan after a fourteen-hour sleeper train ride from Cairo. Sharing food is a very bonding ritual here in Egypt and people dump themselves down in the most basic places and then eat with their fingers from the same bowls. It's quite usual to be invited to join in! These guys are sat on a very dusty station platform with a mosque wall behind them.

We got more sleep than we thought we would at first - it was very much a case of abandonning yourself to the cacophony of noises and tumult of vibrations and jolts.

Then the pleasure of viewing the Nile and life beside it for three hours from sunrise to arrival from our seats . . . I've put a few shots including the sunrise in extras.

PLUS one from our felucca ride in the gloaming in the Nile . . . it shows our very own 'swoop of swallow sail' glide off across the River after dropping us on the corniche at Aswan.
