The accidental finding

On Frozen Pond

I popped out to Tesco's at lunchtime. It was like Christmas, with panic buying ahead of the predicted snowfall. We've had snow flurries, some heavy, over the past two days, but it's not really lying, except on some shaded pavements.Nevertheless, walking with caution is now the order of the day.

Stratford park lake is frozen. Birds were running around on the surface, and a beer bottle lay forlorn. No one was feeding the pigeons. I did take the children out with some Ritz cracker crumbs, to feed the birds in the school grounds.

Yesterday's savoury flapjacks were not popular with the children! However, they enjoyed making them. Diabetes rates are unlikely to rise, whereas if we'd made fairy cakes...
We still had to go swimming, despite the cold. The pool is very warm, but getting out was a shock. So was waiting for the bus. The wind chill factor is adding to the already biting subzero temperatures.

I am now making a hearty winter soup and fully prepared to batten down the hatches and go to bed about 9.30 pm. Will the deep snow come tomorrow? At least I won't have to go out.
