Lake Windermere Whiteway
Lake Windermere lies at about 850m, in the Columbia Valley, between the Rocky Mountains and the Purcell Mountains. It is a shallow lake about 17km long and 2km wide (in fact just a widening of the Columbia River).
At this time of year it is covered in thick ice, but when we walked on it this evening it was also covered in snow.
The Windermere Whiteway is a skating/nordic ski trail, going right around the lake. At 34km, it is the longest trail of its type in the world.
It was great fun to walk on the ice and take in the view towards The Rockies in the fading light.
