Day Two, Heddon to Chollerford

This part of the walk is from Portgate to Chollerford. The ramrod straight military road is built on the line of Hadrian's Wall using it's materials as footings and foundations. Still highly visible is the defensive ditch on the north side, it follows the road for miles! Also still visible on the south side of the wall are great chunks of Vallum, the earthwork demarcation of the wall on friendly territory. Judging by the gap that they left between wall and defensive ditch, the wall would have occupied the left lane of the road.
