Flower Friday : : Photinia

It's been very cold with periods of pouring rain. The rain is a good thing...just not if you are out in it looking for flowers. This large bush is growing next to the covered porch off out kitchen and I was able to get a shot of it looking very pretty in the early morning light with its flowers covered with glistening droplets.

I had to go to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) this morning to renew my driving license. I have been doing this, often by mail since I began driving many more years ago than I care to reveal. The notice  this year said my presence was required for an eye test and a written test. Uh Oh.

The federal government just announced that a special identification card, issued by the DMV will be REQUIRED for domestic travel on airlines, therefore the lines are terrible at the DMV. I made an appointment, but had to wait for it for six weeks, which gave me plenty of time to convince myself that I was bound to fail something. Ridiculous, I know, but such is the way my mind works. I hate taking tests. I even worry about passing an annual physical exam! But I certainly had plenty of time to study the book of the rules of the road in the state of California. I can assure you that I now know exactly the legal blood alcohol levels, the distance from a railroad crossing one must stop, and the lanes in which it is legal to begin and end a left hand turn on both one way and two way roads.

It didn't help that I got lost on the way to my appointment and found that the line was out the door when I finally got there. A gentleman told me that this was the line for people without appointments...if I had an appointment I could go around the building...'where there's another line' said the man in front of him helpfully.

I passed the test, although the computer upon which I took it couldn't read my thumbprint to get things started, and I had to get help. It seems that blowing on my thumb was required...who knew? The woman who came to help me did everything for me except take the test.

So my red car and I should be good to go for another five years and my annotated rules of the road book is available for anybody who would like it.
