Sourdough Bakery 3.0

On my previous visits to Sweden a trip out to a nearby farm where there is a sourdough bakery has been one of my favourite outings. We visited in both 2016 and 2017. So of course I requested that we go again sometime while I was here. Since it was obviously too cold to sit outside, we sadly had to leave Alice at home.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch of a shared sandwich along with soup, sourdough bread, and jam - all made here - and cheese from a nearby farm. Coffee and a tiny sweet treat finished off the meal.

It was interesting to see the farm in the winter - I was used to seeing it in the summer - with chickens running around outside and beautiful flowers and many of the guests dining outside. But I also love the winter setting. The bottom left picture is exactly the same view as my blip from last year, but not quite as colourful this time!

Earlier in the day we went for a long walk in the oak meadows with Alice (see Extra photo). It’s a good thing I love snow because there’s lots of it! Alice loves jumping up on any large rock which is amazing to see for such a small poodle!

When we got back to their neighbourhood, she also wanted to climb up to the top of a huge mountain of snow - this has been piled up by the snow plow after the recent heavy snows! As we would expect, heavy snowfalls are well managed here. Not only do they have plenty of snow removal equipment for both main roads AND side roads, there are little snow plow vehicles, the size of golf carts, that deal with the pedestrian paths around the apartment buildings. And the bike paths have a HIGHER priority for snow removal than the roads for cars do, as they want to encourage the use of bikes over cars. In fact, the main bike paths around the city are heated so that they are kept clear of snow entirely! Amazing! (See 2nd Extra photo to compare heated bike path with partially cleared road.)

Alice’s version of today can be found here.
