Pointy Things

Clearly visible and easy to recognise are the spines of a teasel.
Crawling over those spines are the pointy shells of The Pointed Snail - Cochlicella acuta.

I found a corner of a field that had several dead teasel heads soaking up the moisture from the misty air. Most of them had one or two of these pointed snails crawling over their surface oblivious to the prickles.

They are obviously locally very common here in Sussex on chalk downland but I have never seen them back home in Fife.

I also checked out known haunts of the common lizard but considering the weather, it was not surprising that I saw none.
The forecast is to be more of the same for the next few days before turning colder so my prospects are slim.
