Fat Biking

Quite an amazing trip doing a route we have done on skis many times but this time on fat bikes - Mountain bikes with huge 4.5 inch knobbly tires 1x gears and hydraulic disk brakes they are amazing machines. On the snow on the road they feel very stable, almost like you don’t need to balance compared to a road bike. On the trails it’s great fun but with a bit more sliding. The trails are single track bashed with a snowmobile with an attachment and look in places like a miniature bobsleigh track. We both had a lot of fun and didn’t fall off much. It is surprisingly hard - the drag from the tyres and the snow even on the flat is hard work and getting up steepish hills without coming to a stop with the back wheel spinning is a challenge. We went on a loop to hanguskuren and latvamaja 21k in all averaging a similar speed to what we would ski.

The best fun I’ve had both on a bike and in the snow for a while. Great day
