Sad Day

Up at 0400, all three of us showered, dressed and on the road for 0440. Thick snow covered our road but the main routes appeared to be clear and the forecast was for a ‘gap’ in the weather.
We reached Torpoint at 0600, picked up Sarah and caught the 0630 ferry and headed out on the A38 towards London.
The roads were clear, gritted with high snow piled in the gutters and plenty of abandoned vehicles and bitterly cold.
We stopped once for coffee in a semi-closed motorway services but made good time arriving in a snow blanketed Woking at 1040 and meeting up with Samantha.
Regarding Woking Crematorium I’m with my Dad, I dislike the place, a small, dark, dismal building that really does run its services like a conveyor belt system.
But a really moving service for my sister Susan, with all four of her children participating, gave her the send off she deserved.
It was then off to the Victoria Inn for the wake which like all these things started off somber and downbeat before people relaxed.
A meal at Pizza Express Woking, one of the few places open in the snow, completed a long day.
I was asleep as soon as my head hit the Premiere Inn pillow.
