ice fun

This week temperatures dropped below 0 celsius, even during the day. Perfect to let the country go crazy with its national winter activity: ice skating. Unfortunately, the canals here in Leiden didn't freeze like the ones in Amsterdam, but ice skating is still possible on some ponds, like this one in the neighbourhood. For the first time in six years I ventured out on the ice myself  (see extra) - quickly before it started melting at the end of the afternoon.
