River Mersey
Just Martin and I had the opportunity to complete the latest Superlative Walk today, around Chorlton-cum-Hardy. There were two superlatives - one being the Manchester Southern Cemetery - the largest municipal cemetery in the UK and second largest in Europe - which contains this marble monument to Sir John Alcock, who piloted the first trans-Atlantic aircraft flight from Newfoundland to Clifden, Ireland in June 1919.
