Survivors

The daffodils look a bit battered, but they have survived the snow and will soon be blooming.

Not being a regular filmgoer, I rarely pay much attention to the Oscars, far too much hype about films I have often never even heard of and rarely want to see. However, we did go a week or so ago to see Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and liked it a lot. I think it’s the most thoughtful ending to a film that I have ever seen – surprising and yet the only way it could end. Clever writing and perfectly played. I was very pleased that Frances McDormand won Best Actress, as she was astounding in the film. On the BBC website, there is a clip from her acceptance speech in which she recognises women involved in the film industry – worth watching.

And when seeing the film, we discovered that Rheged is now showing ‘ordinary’ films – huge screen, perfect sound levels, comfortable seats, but no popcorn and no adverts and no trailers . . . fantastic.
