Tui
This is a juvenile Tui. The white bobble they have under the chin has not yet fully formed . There are usually four feathers that make up the bobble and only one has unfurled so far, looking very straggly. The other 3 can be seen tightly furled on either side of the feather that has opened out. They look a bit like fangs. This tui is young enough to still be quite fluffy.
Another young tui I photographed today had three tightly furled feathers either side of the throat, and which eventually will form the white bobble.
This surely must be the last batch of young ones for this season.
