Great Haywood Junction
The ice has finally retreated for us to make a serious attempt to go some where. The marina was more or less ice free so things were looking good. Off we went! The way down to the junction required a little ice breaking but not bad.
The junction was mercifully free from ice. Turning a 60 foot narrowboat 90 degrees in ice isn't easy. You need to go backwards and forwards changing the angle a little each time. Soon we were into a little ice breaking on the way to Tixel wide. Part way there a lady on a boat expressed he pleasure at seeing us. She had just come from the wide and was pleased to see a path opening. As we were to see the path she had made.
As the day progressed it became quite pleasant with sunny spells and the amount of ice less and less. We actually met 4 other boats who had dared to move.
