St Anna chapel
A legend tells that the population in Aarle built a wooden chapel around 1400 as a thank you to St. Anna for the protection of infectious diseases.
On the initiative of Father J. van Audenhoven, in 1628, a stone chapel was built on the same spot, which fell into disrepair during the Reformation. Chaplain C. Bijnen started in 1837 with an overall restoration. In 1950-1951 another thorough restoration followed by Toon Ninaber.
The chapel has a polychrome statue of St. Anna-te-Drieën. (St. Anna is pictured with her daughter Maria and the baby Jesus). The statue stood in the Bestse parish church until 1868.
At the chapel is a statue of St. Joachim, who is the husband of St. Anna. The statue comes from the former monastery Huize Nazareth.
