A confused genius

A day in a tuk-tuk

I tried last night to get my mate to eat some street food. I got some chicken and pork kabab sticks and chicken liver sticks. My mate bottled it so I are them all, p**sy.

After getting in at 4am we were up again at 1pm which was one of the most weirdest but enjoyable days on any holiday I've ever been on.

It started with a tuk-tuk ride to the grand palace which was 20km away. I love tuk-tuks and we should have them in England.

We got to the grand palace at 3pm and found out it was shut as there was a national holiday today in Thailand. At the grand palace a random local came up to us and pointed out on a map, sites we could go to that was open. He then called over a tuk-tuk and told him to take us 3 places and charge us 50baht (£1). Before we knew it we were in the tuk-tuk on our way to Wat Indrawihai (a 40ft hold statue of Buddha) (Pic). Whilst in there a Thai man asked me and ash to take our shoes off sit down with him. He was a Thai English teacher and he told us the history of Thailand, the Buddhists and why it was a national holiday which was really nice of him. When we came out our tuk-tuk was there waiting for us. We thought he would have just left us.

Our tuk-tuk man then took us to a tailors and a jewellery shop which was not on the agenda. We didn't buy a suit but I did buy mom a sapphire elephant pendant for her Christmas present.

The tuk-tuk man then took us to our 2nd destination which was Wat Benjamabophit (a Buddhist temple which was a replica of a temple a thai king joined when he was 20). The temple was amazing and so peacefull.

When we finished our tuk-tuk man then took us to another tailors and jewellery shop. The guy in the tailors got a bit aggressive in his sales technique which p**sed us off. We bit our tongue and just left. We the told our tuk-tuk man to take us back to the grand palace as there are only so many tailors and jewellery shops you can see. On the way back the police stop us and all cars at the lights as the Thai king went passed. He went passed then they reopened the road. If that had been in England the road would have been shut for days for the queen.

We got back to the grand palace and a random Thai guy from phucket started talking to us and told us to get a boat trip passed the grand palace as it would be lit up on this national holiday. He told us to get a tuk-tuk to a dock and tell the tuk-tuk 20bhat and Thai boat trip. The guy gave us is number then walked off. We flagged down a tuk-tuk and the guy we spoke to came running over told the driver 20bhat and said take them to a Thai boat trip as it was cheaper. The tuk-tuk driver did, however it was the down a dodgy back ally where there was a couple of dogs and high walls. It was so surreal
as it was an unofficial boat trip on a Thai boat. We only paid 900bhat which was 600bhat cheaper than the official trips. We went on the boat trip as it started to go dark. It was an amazing experiance and so relaxing. We got to see the rich and poor areas of Thailand.

The boat then dropped us off at random place where we got another tuk-tuk to take us to khao San road (markets and bars). On the way there some bloke and his missus had an argument in the street and he was throwing her bags in the middle of the road.

The tuk-tuk drivers are mad but its the only way to travel in Bangkok. However the Thai people are so nice and friendly but they do like their tailors and jewellery shops.

I'm now on khao San road having a pork and pinapple Thai red curry and a beer reminiscing on our day. What an experiance, hopefully the tuk-tuk back home will offer another story.
