HIDDEN HISTORY....
.... had the opportunity to finally visit "Hadley Park" along the mighty Nepean River area in Castlereagh today.
The history of the property dates back to around 1806 to 1812 info here from the NSW Heritage department.
You may recall my Blip recently re the Lakes Development, well since then the property has been in "lock down" as it sits right in the middle of this development. They have been working on controlled work to keep the property in a "hold" condition controlling the rising damp and general rot.
It was quite something to see, as they have also "mapped and documented" all of the contents even to the point of saving certain parts of the wallpapers etc whilst work is done to determine the age etc. (see extra #1) - will also put up a link tomorrow to Flickr with the other pics taken.
Check (extra #2) the old water tank stand with what's left of the tank sitting next to the well and pumps which filled it. This is about 500 metres from the Nepean river and in between the Cranebrook Creek so the water table was accessed.
The plan is to open to the public on and off as they continue to do work.
Feel very priviledged to have seen it today.
Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE
